This is because your device will automatically connect to the best access point, without you even knowing it was happening.

The reason for this is that it cannot send and receive information at the same time. It must alternate back and forth, depending on network demand and a variety of other factors. Simply put, these networks could not be scaled (made to handle larger networks and larger loads) using traditional methods.
